Tools of the Trade
Tools of the Trade
I have now worked in the fashion industry for over twenty years (dare I admit it!) and during this time I have reviewed many systems on the production process, design, manufacturing, leasing and licensing etc. Ranging from my time at M&S to Principles for Women and then running my own label for ten years one area of key importance is administration and system control - hence our unique expression of Tools of the Trade.
Every trade has professional tools to conduct their work to the highest standards and fashion isn't any different. This section reviews paperwork and admin systems to keep you organised, ensure there are no problems with your production and sealing process, how to measure garments properly and much more besides.
Whilst these forms are extensive there is always more infomration that you can add on to and even seek legal professional advise too but they are an excellent starting point for any company in fashion.
The forms include:
A legally binding Confidentiality Agreement
A Contract of Goods and Services drawn up by a solicitor with full trading terms and conditions that can be downloaded and then you enter in your company name
First Make Sample Card
Order Confirmation Sheet
Invoice layout
Blank Specification Sheet
Itemised Specification Sheet
Docket
Progress Sheet
Quality Report
A Licence Agreement with over 90 pages of information that again is downloadable
How to Measure Guide
Body measurements size chart from 8-26 plus petite grading too.
Costing Sheet
This information is vital for any business and as such is exclusively for the members of Fashion Enter. The forms and paperwork are available in PDF format and are downloadable to enable each designer to alter the forms and enter in their own logos and addresses.
Each form is explained in the Tools of the Trade section in Members only
