Black Friday: Discounts Lure Americans into Stores


The Friday after Thanksgiving is known in the retail industry as Black Friday, supposedly because retailers see their income statements move out of the red (loss) and into the black (profit). It’s a rare Friday off work when Americans wake up feeling bloated from feasting and run to the stores to purge their savings. Although it’s the most popular shopping day of the year in the United States, stores do not always experience the highest profits.
