Eastbury Comprehensive Sees the Real World of Fashion

Over 30 year 11 students form Eastbury Comprehensive School went to CCS Ltd, a clothing manufacturer, to understand exactly how fashion garments are made.

CCS Ltd is an established ladieswear manufacturer who produces garments for Topshop.

Naz Aksu, owner of CCS Ltd, guided the pupils around his factory which is based in Haringey, North London. The pupils reviewed the entire design process from when the fabric arrives to when it is finally bagged and kimbelled ready to sell in Topshop’s 360 plus stores.

Naz said “I was amazed at how receptive these students were. They were genuinely interested in all the processes that are required to make a garment. When people see a dress hanging up in Topshop they don’t realise that the dress has threads, buttons, zips, interlining etc and also needs patterns and grading.”

Bobbi Kumari, Head of Textiles, commented “the day was invaluable in terms of insight into industry for the GCSE students to experience.  They were able to fully understand the processes involved in batch production within the fashion industry which then equipped them to tackle their coursework with a deeper knowledge of industrial processes.  They thoroughly enjoyed the tours around the clothing factory, the trimming factory and the showroom.  The staff at the factories were incredibly helpful and student friendly which added to the enthusiasm of students."

Following the factory visit the pupils then went to visit Cotton Mill, a trimming company that has been established for over 30 years. The company started its life by re-selling hangers that were discarded and is now a multi million pound company.
