Over the next few weeks I will be discussing different components in how to pull together a good shoot. One of the key areas to get right is the make-up design.
Good make-up design can make an ordinarily plan model the face of your brand that will attract millions of your ideal customers. The hair, styling, venue and of course product all pull together in appealing to the masses, and make-up is another area to get right in order to convey the correct brand image.

Just as you cast the right models to suit your label, just as you would arrange the hair and positioning of your models – the make-up must also be planned. A good way to do this is through your mood board, as discussed in the styling article previously.

Gain inspiration from magazines, live catwalk shows or even snap shots, your own surroundings, people on the street. If you are captured by a look that you see – make a note of it. It’s a good idea to carry a note book, Dictaphone and digital camera around with you – or invest in a Blackberry so it can do all of this in one go!
Instinct usually provides you with all the insight you need. You will know what look you are aiming to achieve from your shoot as you know your brand best. Much of it is common sense. Think about the sort of lifestyle your market leads – what do they like? How will they want to see their favourite label? On the other hand, sometimes shocking ...
