Profile - Carlotta Gherzi
London based Italian, Carlotta Gherzi, is a hip, up and coming designer who is one half of the duo who, in 2002, started the fashion label SADO’ which means, "keep working and protecting what you are working for”. The label designs for both men and women and is quickly becoming known as the label that can successfully design contrasting collections that can cater for both vibrant trendy younger buyers and classic elegant older ones
The SADO’ designer, who once won the Alternative Fashion Week Award 2003 and Cancer Research Young Fashion Designer of the Year Award in 2001, grew up in Russia before coming to the UK to study BA Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing at the American University in London. With the ability to speak several languages, complimented by a distinguished style and intriguing confidence, this young designer found and still finds inspiration in Armani, Vivienne Westwood, and Jean Paul Gautier.
SADO’s most celebrated to date is the Autumn/Winter 2004/05 collection, that was inspired by "nature and movement” and by “traditional costumes". The fabrics used included the prestigious Harris Tweed, crocodile leather and supple heavy and light suede. The nature inspired collection also had a range of styles that included embroidered and elaborated silks. It is this collection that featured the now famous jaw-dropping corset outfit composed of beige tones.
Lastly, with both Carlotta Gherzi and her valued co-designer Evan Del Franco at the helm, SADO’ promises to continue to personify the essence of fashion as a global phenomenon and will carry on impressing all those who view the astonishing creations.
