Bethanie Lunn, 26 runs Huge PR, a rapidly growing PR Company for the fashion, beauty and lifestyle worlds. As our PR Expert, she offers advice to our members every week.
Have you got an idea that you’re afraid will fail? Do you think your idea for a business, product or collection could work but not sure where to start? As part of a seven part series, I will take you through top tips giving you advice on how to road test your idea and make it an actuality…
Part two, is your idea feasible?
WILL IT MAKE THE GRADE?
Is it technically feasible?
How do you know so?
Is your idea reliable?
Can you prove all of this?
• You may think your idea is fabulous but how can you prove it? Will your market agree with you? Whatever your idea is, it’s vital you test the market before taking it to market!
• You must ensure that your idea can provide consistent quality. Whether it be a business where you offer services or a product, consistent quality is a must. It is no good having a great idea and then failing to deliver. Ensure you can reliably provide a good product or service time and time again.
• Products and services are people. Make sure you find a top team to make and sell your idea, from staff to shops that will stock it. Invest in your staff and those you associate your business with as they carry the reputation of your company. Again, aim for quality every time – it might be all very well that you can provide masses of your product but if it isn’t a quality product – all of your hard work will be undone.
• Launching before you are ready is risky. Make sure your idea is ready when you come to sell it. From your brand image to the product itself – you have to be at a certain level before launching your business to the public. Get the experts in to advise you and help, since getting this part wrong can damage you. Remember, if you build up client/customer hopes and can't deliver, they won't come back so investing in your image and perception is a must.
Good luck!
Next week, we discuss how to sell your idea.
